Hardcore Crushing Ltd get the Work started on Yorkshire Housing Project
March 2015 saw the start of demolition work on a site on Roughaw Close, Skipton that was previously used as sheltered housing. Yorkshire Housing have set out plans to redevelop the site and build a total of 12 flats for older people. The two bedroom flats will be available to rent through Yorkshire Housing’s social landlord scheme that aims to provide affordable housing throughout the area.
Hardcore Crushing Ltd and their sister company Steptoe’s Yard Ltd have been commissioned to carry out the demolition work by the Principal Contractor M.W. & R.F Brewster & Son, and work is currently underway to remove the existing buildings and prepare the site for redevelopment.
As the structures are systematically dismantled, all materials will be carefully picked and segregated into the following categories, the vast majority of which will then go forward for recycling, or landfill:
• General waste products
• Metals (Ferrous & Non-Ferrous)
• Timber, Glass and Plastics
• Concrete, Masonry, Blockwork, Brickwork
The largest percentage of the material will be recycled with only a small proportion going forward to landfill. The dressed walling stone will go forward to Steptoe’s Yard; a 12-acre recycling yard, where it will be sorted and re-sold, and all other ‘hard waste’ materials such as brickwork, blockwork, and concrete will go off site to be crushed and screened into ‘recycled aggregates’ for use on other construction schemes, making the whole scheme as ‘sustainable’ as possible and helping keep the overall carbon footprint of the scheme as low as possible.
Hardcore Crushing Ltd are a Local Authority ‘Approved Demolition Contractor’ who work with a number of Local Authorities and Public bodies across the North of England. They have worked on a variety of projects from small local authority housing schemes such as this current project in Skipton, to large Chemical Works schemes; Schools and Colleges works; private commercial developments; old textile mill demolition and site clearance, and even an Air Force base in Oxford.
Following the completion of the demolition works, the site will be handed back over to M.W. & R.F Brewster & Son who are the Principal Contractor and who are experts in all types of building work, including complete House Building schemes; Extensions; Renovations; Barn Conversions; Heritage Work, and small stand along Joinery projects.
On completion of the works, the finished apartments will then be available to rent through Yorkshire Housing and they will be exclusively for older residents.
